A very good book
By Yolanda Li
This is a very good statistic book. The book provides detailed information about applying statistics in geographical context. The book is easy to read, informative but not too extensive. Enough details are given for each concepts. The examples are extremely helpful in understand the principles of spatial issues. Some ideas in this book are creative and easy to use. It has it value in practise too. If you are interested in doing spatial statistics. This book will be a wonderful start point.

Difficult and Confusing Text
By K Anna Maria
I am using this book in a senior-level research methods course and my classmates and I are all very frustrated with it. It assumes you already know all of the methods, and even though I have a good statistics background, I am having difficulties. It is extremely time-consuming to work through, so expect to spend a very significant amount of time on each chapter. I do not recommend this book for any individual with little or no statistics knowledge, and I caution those who do know statistics.

Frustrating Book
By Paula Bischoff
Unless you are proficient in statistics, this book will be very frustrating for students. I have trouble finding adequate explanations and definitions, and I am supposed to know this stuff. Their are numerous editing mistakes which adds to the students frustration, and could someone provide an answer key to the assignments. It reinforces the inability of some to understand how and what students need to learn.

Review

"One of the fastest ways to provide an understanding is through a story or a visual. Film clips do both. This book is an invaluable aid to any staff developer who wants to captivate an audience and teach at the same time."

(Ruby Payne, President 2005-04-20)

"Teachers, staff developers, and presenters who are eager to make their productions more engaging, vibrant, and memorable, will find this collection invaluable. Because our metaphorical minds learn through finding patterns, relationships and analogies, the use of film clips to illuminate such elusive but enduring values as persistence, courage, empathy, creativity, and hope can accelerate their meanings more powerfully than any lecture, definition, or description." (Arthur L. Costa, Professor Emeritus 2005-04-21)

"You can only bring forth that which you can imagine, and this book allows people to imagine together through the power of film. By seeing different ways of behaving, interacting, responding, and being, people consider new ways of being for themselves and how this could change their world." (Sara L. Gjerdrum, Manager, Field Operations 2005-05-06)

"This exceptionally well-organized, user-friendly resource is sure to be among the most well used in the tool kit of every teacher, principal, and staff developer. Without a doubt, the video clips will elicit compelling learning conversations in faculty meetings, workshops, coursework, and all other professional settings. This resource will be invaluable in my own teaching." (Jennifer York-Barr, Associate Professor, Educational Policy & Administration 2005-05-09)

"Energizing Staff Development Using Film Clips provides a handy reference manual for workshop leaders interested in enriching and diversifying their learning sessions on values and ethics." (PsycCRITIQES, February 15, 2006 Issue 2006-02-15)

About the Author
Brandt W. Pryor is Director of The Evaluation Group, College of Education, at Texas A&M University, College Station, where he now leads statewide studies of high school reform efforts. He is also an educational research consultant specializing in attitude and behavior studies. He has previously served as Associate Professor, Department of   Educational Leadership, Lamar University, and Senior Research Associate in the College of Education at Arizona State University. He did his doctoral work at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he studied attitude theory and measurement with Martin Fishbein, the world’s leading social psychologist. (Dr. Fishbein is now the Harry C. Coles, Jr., Distinguished Professor at the University of Pennsylvania.) His dissertation research, on which committee Fishbein served, was the first successful application of Fishbein’s model to decision making about participation in voluntary educational programs. He later replicated that study in investigations of decision making by schoolteachers, prin-cipals, and others. His most recently completed attitude study investigated the participation of information scientists in professional development, and was published in the Journal of Education in Library and Information Science, 39, 118–133. He is currently studying decisions of teachers and administrators to use interactive video conferencing for pro-fessional development, and decisions of teachers to integrate technology into their instruction. He has spoken on attitudes and behavior since 1984, with high school students, community college teachers, as well as with public school and university teachers, researchers, and administrators. He has presented numerous scholarly papers concerning attitude theory, and has conducted his work-shop Have You Got “Attitude”?: Measuring, Understanding, and Changing Attitude and Behavior at state and national meetings since 1998.

Caroline R. Pryor is Assistant Professor and Regents Fellow in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture, at Texas A&M University, College Station. In 2003 she was selected as a Wye Fellow of The Aspen Institute .  She holds a doctorate in Secondary   Education from Arizona State University. She holds teaching credentials in grades K–9, is a former elementary school teacher, and was the director of an English as a Second Language program. Her books include Philosophy of Education Workbook: Writing a Statement of Beliefs and Practices (2002), Democratic Practice Workbook: Activities for the Field Experience (2000), and Writing a Philosophy Statement: An Educator’s Workbook (2004), all published by McGraw-Hill; as well as The Mission of the Scholar: Research and Perspectives, published by Peter Lang (2002).  Currently, her research focuses on democratic classroom discourse strategies, and applying the model to study preser-vice and mentor teachers’ intentions to implement democratic practice. She has also applied aspects of the model in grant project evaluations (e.g., Pryor & Kang, 2003). She teaches graduate courses in curriculum theory and development. In a career that spans 25 years of teaching, she has worked extensively with principals and teachers in field-based, preservice programs building alliances for school reform.

Review
This collection of stories provides some of the rich descriptive detail needed to put the complex process of development into perspective. (Miles Irving)

I think this is an excellent endeavor―well conceptualized and well executed. I would most definitely like to use this text in my undergraduate development classes. (Judith Rhoden)

These case studies allow the reader a glimpse at the individual, family, and community dynamics that go into making each child who he or she is. This text will make a wonderful supplement for courses dealing with child development, educational psychology, families, communities, and parenting. (Deanna Nekovei)

This book is a welcome addition to the literature. As a reader one gets the sense that these cases are real. The authors do a great job of providing enough detailed information without overloading the reader. Such details allow the reader an opportunity to apply theory to real life examples. And, as a course instructor, these cases will provide me an opportunity to assess whether my students have a firm grasp of the concepts. (Karen M. Dutt-Doner)

"The reader gains a full spectrum picture of child/adolescent development through to the colorful case examples presented in this book. It was a pleasure to discover that this book provides case examples that represent various racial/ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, religious preference, sexual orientations, and family backgrounds. Both students and teachers will gain a basic foundation in human development from this book as they read through the stories of these wonderful children and relate their cases to different developmental theories." (Michelle L. White Springer 2006-11-27)

Review

"Public Relations Writing is currently the best public relations writing text available. The authors offer a no nonsense approach to teaching public relations writing. The text has great explanations of how to write an assortment of public relations documents and includes examples of each. Treadwell and Treadwell also spend time dealing with the aesthetics of public relations or how documents should look (color, paper, format, etc.) as well as how they should be written. Of special note are the excellent discussions of communication theory that many of the other writing texts lack."

(Michael L. Kent 2004-08-01)

"This book integrates experiential exercises useful to understanding writing from an organizational perspective. The assignments require a student to become knowledgeable about the Internet and work as a member of a team. The text/workbook concept is very helpful if the course is taught online. The references to resources are invaluable for research."

(Bonita Dostal Neff, Ph.D. 2004-08-09)

"Each chapter has clear learning objectives, excellent exercises and discussion questions, which make the book valuable for teachers, students and practitioners alike." (The Journal of Entrepreneurship The Journal of Entrepreneurship 2008-08-14)
