Prior to joining the faculty at Columbia University, in the early 1990s Dr. Parker was the founder and director of the Program in Gender, Sexuality and Health at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, which has been nationally and internationally recognized as the leading sexuality research and training program in Brazil. In 2002, Dr. Parker also founded, and has since co-chaired, Sexuality Policy Watch (formally named the International Working Group on Sexuality Research until 2006). He is also one of the Founding Editors of the journal, Culture, Health and Sexuality, which began publication in 1999 and has become one of the leading international journals for sexuality research, with by far the most multi-cultural editorial board and publication record of any sexuality journal in the world.

Jackie became an Advanced Skills Teacher in 1999, training many teachers and school leaders across the UK in techniques for transforming learning and developing Emotional Intelligence. In 2002 Jackie received an OBE for services to education for her work in developing Learning to Learn initiatives and for leading national training for AST's. She then went on to become Headteacher of Campion School, Northamptonshire. In 2004, this large comprehensive school achieved a very good Ofsted report under her leadership. Jackie introduced several curriculum innovations in her school, including the RSA Opening Minds competency-based curriculum, until she left to take up consultancy and training work in 2006. She has also written several publications linked to transforming learning, including her latest books 'The Learner's Toolkit' and 'The Primary Learner's Toolkit' both full of materials to help teachers deliver lessons in social and emotional intelligence (SEAL) and to help develop independent learners. As a School Improvement Partner Jackie has worked for several LAs both in schools and Pupil Referral Units. Jackie is also a qualified NLP Master Practitioner, using NLP techniques to train students, teachers and leaders how to manage their thinking to produce excellent results. She also uses these skills as a successful life coach. Jackie has also worked with SSAT, the Campaign for Learning, the National College for School Leadership and as a BSF consultant. Her work as an author and trainer has established her reputation both nationally and internationally as a leading proponent and designer of innovative curricula designed to develop in children the skills required for independent learning.

About the Author

Craig E. Johnson (PhD, University of Denver) is emeritus professor of leadership studies at George Fox University, Newberg, Oregon, where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in leadership, ethics, management and communication. During his time at the university he served as director of the George Fox Doctor of Business Administration program and chair of the Department of Communication Arts. Though retired from full-time teaching, Johnson continues to serve as an adjunct professor. He is the author of Organizational Ethics: A Practical Approach (also published by Sage) and co-author, with Michael Z. Hackman, of Leadership: A Communication Perspective. His research findings, instructional ideas, and book reviews have been published in the Journal of Leadership Studies, the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, the Journal of Leadership Education, Academy of Management Learning and Education, the International Leadership Journal, Communication Quarterly, Communication Reports, and other journals. In 2016 he received the George Fox University outstanding graduate faculty researcher award.  Johnson has led and participated in service and educational trips to Honduras, Kenya, Rwanda, New Zealand, China, and Brazil and has held volunteer leadership positions in a variety of religious and nonprofit organizations. In addition to  teaching and writing, he enjoys working out, reading, fly-fishing, watching sports, and spending time with family.

About the Author
Jeffrey Glanz currently serves as a Senior Fellow at the Institute for University-School Partnership, Director of the Masters Program and the Raine and Stanley Silverstein Chair in Professional Ethics and Values at the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration at Yeshiva University. Prior to coming to YU, Dr. Glanz served as Dean of Graduate Programs and Chair of the Department of Education at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. He also coordinated the educational leadership program that led to New York State certification as a principal and assistant principal. Prior to arriving at Wagner, he served as executive assistant to the president of Kean University in Union, New Jersey. Dr. Glanz held faculty status as a tenured professor in the Department of Instruction and Educational Leadership at Kean University’s College of Education. He was named Graduate Teacher of the Year in 1999 by the Student Graduate Association and was also that year’s recipient of the Presidential Award for Outstanding Scholarship. He served as a teacher and assistant principal in the New York City public schools. He has conducted numerous workshops and seminars internationally. Dr. Glanz has authored, coauthored, and co-edited 20 books and has many peer-reviewed article publications.

About the Author

Lee Roy Beach is McClelland Professor of Management and Policy, and Professor of Psychology in the College of business and Public Administration at the University of Arizona. Previously, he served as Vice Dean, Eller College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Arizona. Professor Beach received his PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Colorado and began his professional career as a human factors researcher for the U.S. Navy, followed by service at the Office of Naval Research. After leaving the Navy, he completed two years of postdoctoral work at the University of Michigan before taking a position in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington, where he moved from assistant to full professor and served as Chair. He has been a Visiting Scholar at Cambridge and Leiden Universities and a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago. He is the author of over 125 scholarly articles and three books on organizational behavior and human decision making:

Good Review

I have a PhD in Management, so caveat emptor on my comments. I found this book to be a good overview of the important theories about decision making. Examples used to explain the concepts throughout the book are adequate for basic understanding. I was hoping for a little more depth, but depth can be found in the original theoretical writings cited throughout the book. This book, for me, is a nice synopsis.

About the Author
Professor Rosemary Sage is a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, Psychologist and teacher with experience in health and education fields. For the past 20 years she has worked in higher education both in London and Leicester and was made Professor of Communication in Education at Liverpool Hope University in 2007. She is also long-standing Visiting Professor at the Women’s University, Nara, Japan and has been Visiting Professor at the University of Havana. Rosemary was a Trustee for both the Association for Speech Impaired Children and the Independent Panel for Education Advice; President of Human Communication International; Education Advisor to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists; Member of the Research Committee of the British Stammering Association and a Member of Sir Michael Rutter’s Advisory Committee on Language Research.

(with Distinction) in history, with honors in Humanities, from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He continued at Stanford and completed both his M.A. and his Ed.D. in Education.

Dwight is also heavily involved in global concerns and for more than 10 years served as the International Technical Advisor for the United Nations Development Program in China as well as a consultant to the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Germany. He also serves or has served as a consultant for schools and universities in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, India, South Africa, Israel, Uganda, Malawi and Greece.

He is the co-author (with his son, Douglas B. Allen, Ph.D.) of a companion volume to Making the 2 + 2 Performance Appraisal Connection that is being developed based upon the application of the 2 +2 model in the corporate sector. He is also the co-author of AMERICAN EDUCATION: The 100 Billion Dollar Challenge, (with Bill Cosby, Ph.D.) which was "ePublished" by Time Warner in 2000, and was named one of six non-fiction finalists in the International eBook Awards. In 2002, Dwight was named University Teacher of the Year by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia 1n 2001, and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, has honored him by establishing the Dwight W. Allen professorship of Educational Policy and Reform, also in 2001.

Dwight is known as a leading proponent of reformed educational systems for the future, and has written literally scores of influential papers and magazine articles on all aspects of the topic. He is an in-demand speaker and has delivered hundreds of lectures on national and international platforms. He has been the recipient of numerous grants for studies of educational systems.



Alyce C. LeBlanc, Ph.D., is the Curriculum Specialist for the School of Education at Capella University. In addition to teaching, she has developed numerous instructor-led graduate courses for web-based online delivery in the School of Education. Alyce has a particular interest in teacher preparation programs and currently has a lead role in the development of a new teacher leadership masters program at Capella University.

Alyce initially studied music at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and later at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik where she graduated with distinction in Piano Performance. She was a prizewinner in several international piano competitions.

She furthered her studies at the University of Southern California, where she earned an M.S. in Systems Management, later completing her Ph.D. in Urban Services/Education at Old Dominion University. She has subsequently taught at Oberlin College, Old Dominion University, and National-Louis University in Germany. She has been active in teacher preparation programs, school reform issues, and has been a consultant to teachers and education leaders in the Czech Republic and China, as well as in the US. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and was recently presented the Harold Abel Outstanding Faculty Award at Capella University.

I bought this book eight years ago and used it to transform the professional learning culture at my school. The 2 + 2 method is a practice where teachers visit each other's classrooms just long enough to provide two compliments and two suggestions for improvement.

2 + 2 is a useful starting point for building a culture of collaboration. If you are seeking to open the classroom doors at your school, this is the place to commence.
