Eric L. Einspruch is a Senior Research Associate and Project Director at RMC Research Corporation in Portland, Oregon. He received his B.A. with an emphasis in human ecology from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and his M.S.Ed. in counseling psychology and his Ph.D. in educational research and evaluation from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Much of his experience with large-scale data analysis was acquired while working in the Office of Institutional Research at Miami-Dade Community College. He has taught courses in statistical methods and in computer applications in educational research. He is currently involved in the evaluation of school-based and community-based social service programs. His publications have appeared in the Florida Journal of Educational Research, International Journal of Early Childhood, Journal of Counseling Psychology, Journal of Drug Education, Journal of Primary Prevention, Psychotherapy in Private Practice, and Reaching Today’s Youth. He is active in the Oregon Program Evaluators Network, a local affiliate of the American Evaluation Association, serving as charter Secretary in 1999 and 2000 and as President in 2003.

In the book, An Introductory Guide to SPSS for Windows, Eric Einspruch, "Senior Research Associate and Project Director at RCM Research Corporation in Portland, Oregon," teaches his readers the essentials of SPSS- Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (Einspruch). Einspruch claims that his book is intended to assist those taking semester-long introductory statistics courses, those attempting to learn the basics of SPSS on their own, and those wishing to reacquaint themselves with SPSS. Throughout the book, the author not only offers step-by-step instruction for how to perform varying functions on SPSS, but he also provides sample programs, picture of exactly what specific outputs would look like, and an explanation for how to interpret and analyze the resulting data. This second edition of Einsprunch's book was created specifically for SPSS version 12.0, but it seems to be helpful for use with other versions as well. This book includes an index and was extremely easy to navigate and understand. As a current college student who is teaching myself the basics of SPSS for use in my Senior Thesis, I can personally say that this book is phenomenal. This book has provided me with the knowledge needed to know what functions I need to perform, with the awareness of how to perform the specific functions, and with the ability to understand my final, computed data.

Purchased for a class.
Well written text; clear and precise language with easy to follow examples. However, it is greatly over priced. Would recommend for anyone who has never used SPSS, but not for others. The $50 spent on this text would have been better spent towards another book on SPSS.
